    Session 1

Topic: Advanced Database Diagnostics with the Trace File Analyzer (TFA) Suite

    Speaker: Sean Scott, Bodybuilding.com

    Abstract

Most database administrators know that Trace File Analyzer (TFA) is the preferred tool for collecting and preparing files for troubleshooting an issue with Oracle Support, but remain unaware that it is actually a robust suite of tools capable of capturing OS metrics, system changes, insights into alert and log files and automatically collecting diagnostic information to expedite troubleshooting of performance events and deadlocks. It's lightweight, cluster aware and suitable for standalone and RAC databases as well as engineered systems.

This session will go beyond the basic diagcollect command to cover more advanced capabilities of TFA, including system and database log analysis, user management, redaction and repository maintenance. The use of Automatic Diagnostic Repository (ADR) and the SQL Test Case Builder for investigating database and performance issues will also be demonstrated.

    Session 2

    Topic: ADOP Patching gotchas!

    Speaker: Oti Ometie, Independant Consultant

    Abstract

AD Online Patching(ADOP) as a utility eases the burden of constantly taking an outage to apply an E-Business Suite patch, however with that ease comes a complexity that can only be overcome with experience, creativity and an understanding of the documentation. This session aims to get you across pitfalls you may experience while using the utility. Walk you through scenarios you are likely to face when applying patches to multiple nodes and explain concepts like fs_clone and cleanup_mode = full. The session will be interspersed with interesting anecdotes and challenges I have encountered and resolved.
